  • This 30-hour core level training will assist counselors in meeting the ODMHSAS gambling treatment professional requirements and a portion of the National Gambling Counselor Certification. Prerequisite Effective in 2010, all individuals seeking certification must complete the program in sequence and meet one of the following criteria.
  • It is designed for individuals who are trying to become certified as gambling counselors. This review covers the content areas of the International Certification Examination for Gambling Counselors using multiple choice questions and other interactive content material. This home study course also delivers daily email material to subscribers.
New QMHA certification applicants:
QMHA-R Degree Path

This application is only for those who have a Bachelor's degree or higher

  • Must provide official transcripts
  • Must have supervisor complete a competency assessment
  • Fee is $100

Please make sure you have a Bachelor's Degree before opening this application.

Registration is required before being eligible to move into the testing phase for full QMHA-I Certification

Due to testing issues related to COVID-19, full QMHA-I Certification is not currently offered. Once testing becomes available, we will place QMHA-I testing applications into everyones account who has a completed QMHA-R

QMHA-R Non-Degree Path

This application is only for those who do not possess a Bachelor's Degree

  • Must complete an Assessment Matrix, demonstrating a combined 3 years of Education/Work Experience
  • Must have supervisor complete a competency assessment form
  • Must submit official transcripts (if using college education)
  • Must have supervision hours primary source verified by MHACBO
  • Must provide copies of training certificates (If using CEUs)
  • Fee is $100

QMHA Grandparenting

National Gambling Counselor Certification Board

Grandparenting Period: October 15, 2018 – December 31, 2019

National Certified Gambling Counselor

QMHA Grandparenting:

  • Grandparenting has closed as of January 1st 2020. All open applications will be eligible for completion until June 30th 2020.
The following is an outline of the requirements for certification as an International Certified Gambling Counselor-II (ICGC-II):
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in the behavioral health field such as license or certification in a recognized behavioral health field (i.e. psychology, addictions, clinical social work).
  • 60 hours (ICGC-II) of gambling specific training and education.
  • 2,000* hours (ICGC-II) clinical experience treating gamblers and/or family members in an approved setting with a minimum number of 24 hours of sessions with a International Gambling Counselor Board Approved Clinical Consultant.
  • Signed statements from two co-workers.
  • Signed statement from on-site clinical supervisor.
  • Signed statement from Board Approved Clinical Consultant (BACC).
  • Signed application form, ethical statement forms and directory authorization form.
  • Passing score on Certification Examination for Gambling Counselors.
  • Payment of $200 with check or money order by mail; or with credit card by calling the NCPG office at 202-547-9204.
